Biography

Patrick Francis Healy was a Catholic and Jesuit Reverend, and the first African American man to obtain a PhD. Later in his career he became an influential President of Georgetown University, transforming it from a liberal arts college to the modern university it is today. He is mentioned in Frances "Fanny" Adeline Seward's 1866 diary.
