Biography

Henry Seldon was a prominent member of the Rochester, NY community, started work as a lawyer, and later took up various roles as a civil servant. He served as a State Reporter to the NY State Court of Appeals, then as an associate justice from July 1, 1861 until January 2, 1865. Before that, he had served as the Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1857-1858. He was a Republican and abolitionist, and advocated for Susan B. Anthony's right to vote. He was mentioned in Frances Miller Seward's letter of December 4, 1861 to William Henry Seward as "intending to propose to Congress to make an appropriation for the widow of Calvin Huson, Jr."
