Cecilia Key (Bond) Stanbery was born in Ohio, the daughter of Hon. William Key Bond, a U.S. Congressman from Ohio. On July 14, 1841, she married Henry Stanbery who later became U.S. Attorney General under President Andrew Johnson and a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. Frances "Fanny" Seward references her in her 1866 diary visiting the Seward home in Washington one evening.
