Edward Lawrence wrote from Liverpool, England to express the sympathies of his town after the attack in which William Henry Seward and son Frederick Seward were hurt. The letter addressed to Frances Miller Seward in April 1865 was the result of a town meeting and signed by Lawrence, the then-mayor. He was otherwise a merchant. The letter does not describe what interest he has in the Seward family.
