Captain John Tapper immigrated to America in 1840 from England. He served in the Mexican-American War, and stayed actively involved in the military during the Civil War. He was a prominent figure in Iowa. where he lived for most of his life. He was mentioned in a letter from Abigail Hall to Frances Miller Seward, dated September 3rd 1861.
