Auburn June 22d.
My dear J,
I leave today for New York & Philadelphia,
to close my affairs as early as possible & early next month
will be with you. Please so say to anybody whom
it may concern.
Please say to Mr. Rumsey
business there as [ efficienty ]

Your letter is recd. Henry Smiths
announced by him to his parents. It was a rash step
and necessarily alarmed them much. If it shall make
him more sensible of the necessity of establishing incomplible
habits of industry and enterprise it may and probably will
be of service to him. I hope it will have that effect. Soli-
citous for his welfare and sympathy with his family
in the affliction of his father’s
best calculated to earn their kind [ consideation ]
