Westfield, 27 Dec, 1841.
My dear Uncle,
One of the pieces of land which my
Father
Birth: 1793-08-23 Death: 1841-02-24
had in his possession stands at the office in
your name: there is due upon it about $380. with
$100. interest. My Father built a Barn & sheds upon
it which cost nearly $150 – more than the int. due.
Are you willing to deed it to me, for the amt
of Prin. & Int. now due, without requiring any thing done,
& allowing me the usual terms of the office? the custom
is to require the int. down – to do this is impossible for
me & the piece is worth nearly double the price at which
it stands. I would not trouble you but I feel some
delicacy in asking Mr P.
Birth: 1805-05-17 Death: 1892-05-17Certainty: Probable
to do so much for me.
Allow me to request an answer at your
earliest convenience.
Very Respectfully
Your affectionate Nephew,
Augustus S.
His Excellency
W. H. Seward
