Paterson June 25th 1849
My Dear Uncle,
I write now to ask a great
favor of you. I want to get a situation as
clerk or something of that kind in some one
of the departments. I think that you could
easily get it for me. I am tired of reading
law, and after I get through, it is a great
chance if I succeed on account of the number
of Lawyers now. Every place in the United
States
is full of them. I would Just have
go to California as get a situation.
Please write soon, and let me know what
you think of it.
Your Affectionate
Nephew A. Canfield
To Hon Wm H Seward
