Washington DecJanuary 7. 1854
My Dear Clarence,
I send my check on the
Bank of Auburn for $124.93 my assessment for
the Sewer  Please hand it to the Collector
Unknown
and
take his receipt and send it to me.
I send also my check $250.25 the
Assessment of Seward & Burr for which take
a receipt and hold it with your vouchers.
But show the receipt to Mr Nathan Burr
Birth: 1795-03-04 Death: 1863-01-22

and ask him pursuant to arrangement made
with me to inclose one half of that sum, viz
$125.122 as a Bond he holds against me 
It is likely that the amount will vary from
what we calculated by the addition of the
concessions. But Mr Burr will see that this is
right, also take Mr Burr’s Certificate that he has
in this way been paid & has enclosed that sum, and
send the Certificate to me. Ever yours my Dear Clarence,
William H Seward.
Clarence A Seward Esq.
