Albany, Nov. 11th
My dear Father,
I will attend
to the advertisement in the
Era.
As returns come in, they
look as if the Senate was
safe. The Western Counties
have come out better than was
expected. Our friends
Unknown
here are
confident that another year,
with time for organization, will
make a similar end of Know –
Nothingsism along the River. A
good many are disappointed,
but I see none disheartened
by the persistent stolidity in New
York, Brooklyn and here, which
has lost us the State. We
at least know now, where
and how we stand. The vote
is going to be very light. Whigs
enough [ staid ]
