Tuesday Morning – May 10
We are now about 700 miles from New York
and the fog which envelopes us indicates that
we are approaching the banks of New Foundland
you will find these banks on the map – They
are shoals covered with water averaging about
forty feet deep. When we shall have passed
them we shall then ascend to the 50 th
parallel of latitude and then strike directly
across the ocean, towards our destined port of
Southampton.
