Wednesday May 11
The cold weather became almost intolerable
during the night, I had broken sleep – amid
the creaking of the trunks and the voices of
the seamen in managing the vessel – I have
tried those beautiful socks which you made
for me, and I sleep in them every night. They
remind me of you when I go to bed, and
the nicely cut shave papers which await me
will not let me forget you in the morning.
