arrived, fresh from long-
continued intimacy &
recent conversation with
Lord Palmerston
John Russell
course of which our affairs
have been much dis-
cussed.
He is a true Ameri-
can, who knows well

to his own country & to
inspire the confidence
of foreign statesmen.
As such, the precise
report which he gives
of recent conversations,
is especially interesting.
It has made me
happy in the assur-
ance that all will
go right in England
with regard to us.

& I now announce
his visit in order to
bespeak for him during
the short time he may
be there an opportunity
of laying his views be-
fore those who are most
interested in our foreign
