Biography:
Giuseppe Bertinatti was an Italian statesman who was dispatched as a minister to the US by King Victor Emmanuel II of Piedmont-Sardinia before Italy was unified. He maintained his position after Italian unification in 1861. In his letter from November 6, 1859, William Henry Seward refers to him while recounting his interaction with King Victor Emmanuel II. Bertinatti later was ambassador to The Hague, where he died.
