Biography
Vallandigham represented Ohio in the House of Representatives from 1857-1863. He opposed the Republican Party and the Civil War, and led a Democratic faction called the Copperheads who opposed war on the grounds that it hurt the South. Vallandigham was an ardent critic of Lincoln, and was eventually court martialed and exiled to the Confederacy.
