Biography

Helen was the wife of Major General Irvin McDowell, who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Apparently, she spent a time in "the Asylum" but left it, "cured," in 1870, according to Frederick William Seward's letter to his father William Henry Seward on November 12, 1870.
