Biography

Cutting was a Representative from New York and prominent New York lawyer. He was born in NYC and was privately tutored. He studied law at the Litchfield Law School. He was admitted to the bar in 1827, commencing practice in NYC. He was a member of the NY State Assembly in both 1836 and 1837, but was not a candidate for reelection. He was a member of the board of aldermen in 1843. He was also a city recorder. Cutting was elected as a Democrat to the 33rd Congress from 1853-1855, but was not a candidate for renomination. He resumed his law practice in NYC.
