married Maria Rebecca Abbot. He was a prominent physician in Auburn, NY, assisting at a few trials. He began the study of medicine at 13 and an active member of the community for 45 years. He was also secretary of the community for 22 years. He discovered the fact that caffeine is an antidote to opium poisoning and was the first to publish it. He also originated Fosgate's Cordial.
