"Alderman" Cowdrey is mentioned in 18381210BJS_WHS1. BJS says, "This will be handed you by Capt Saml Candler of New York City, formerly a friend of mine in Cincinnati & a kinsman of Alderman Cowdry of N.Y."

In the text of the Cowdrey-Cowdery-Cowdray Genealogy, we find: "Few men deserve more honor from their descendants than Samuel Cowdrey. His father, Jonathan, Jr., of Revolutionary fame, had given him the benefit of a fine education, and it was seed sown in good ground for he became an eminent lawyer and was elected several times as Alderman, at that period a position of great honor." Samuel married Eliza Anderson and together they had 11 children.

Samuel Cowdrey's daughter, Sally Hoyt Cowdrey, was the first wife of Captain Samuel Candler of New York.
