Biography:
" From: Mayville Sentinel, February 7, 1877 "Death of Westfield's Oldest Physician" "On Thursday, Jan 25, SILAS SPENCER, MD, passed the unknown bourne. The death of Dr. Spencer was not unexpected, as for many months he has held to life by a most uncertain tenure. Dr. Spencer was born in Winham County, CT, in 1788. He studied medicine in St. Lawrence Co., NY, and came to Westfield in 1817, when he commenced the practice of medicine. He was long numbered among the most prominent citizens of the village, and as a physician was skillful and successful. The funeral was largely attended on Sabbath morning, and the remains were taken to Ripley( *Westfield) for internment. " "
