Biography

Matias Romero was born in 1837 in O, Mexico. Matias Romero served as the official representative, Charges d’Affaire and Ambassador of the Mexican government in Washington, D.C. during the American Civil War. He was influential in gathering support from politicians who were at odds with William Henry Seward’s policies towards French involvement in Mexico. He served from 1860-1868. Romero was a lawyer, politician, editor, and author. In 1868, He
married an American, Lucretia Allen. Romero died in New York City in 1898.
