Biography

The second child of LCC and MDC, and the second child to die very young. (Their first child was Frederick Allen Canfield, b. 1827.) Little Augustus passed away at the tender age of "six months and a few days old," ailing from the croup. Augustus died while the family was in Bargaintown, N.J., where MDC practiced medicine. LCC describes Augustus' death and the sadness that follows in 18290223LCC_WHS1. In this letter, she chides Henry for his poor parenting, using God to her advantage: "He will most assuredly punnish those who live in neglect of his holy commands [to revere thy children] – be awakened my beloved Brother."
