Daughter of one of George Washington's aides de camp Richard Cary, Ann Low was first married to Richard Fenimore Cooper, an elder brother of novelist James Fenimore Cooper. After Cooper's death in 1813, Ann Low married wealthy Englishman George Hyde Clarke, commissioner of the Hyde Hall mansion. Clarke, though legally married to Ann Low, maintained a separate family in England. Ann Low is mentioned in 18320218FMS_LMW as staying in Albany, much to the displeasure of FMS.
