FMS writes "I shall not tell you what I think about the W. Hautvile case – there are so many various opinions that I would like to know whether you and I draw the same conclusion – so you must read it all through – your own sister" The D'Hauteville Case, seems to have been a well known case which took place in the Philadelphia court system in 1840. 

The case revolved around the matter of child custody. Paul Daniel Gonsalve Grand D'Hauteville was the father of the child in question and one of the participating parties in the case.
