Biography

Jonathon Drake Stevenson was a politician and military commander. He served as private secretary to Daniel C. Tompkins, Vice President of the United States. He accepted the command of military volunteer regiment in California from President Polk in 1846. He later became military commander of the southern district of California, and, in 1872, was appointed Shipping Commissioner for the Port of San Francisco.
