Biography

William Henry Appleton was the oldest son of Daniel and Hannah Appleton, born on January 27th, 1814. He married Mary Moody Worthen in on April 16th, 1844. Took over D. Appleton and Company from his father, Daniel Appleton, in 1848.  He was a prominent publisher for sixty years, publishing works by prominent figures such as Lewis Carroll, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Charles Darwin.
