Biography

Hugh Legare was born in Charleston, S.C., and graduated from the College of South Carolina. He was admitted to the bar in 1822. He served in the 25th Congress. He was attorney general of South Carolina from 1830-1832, and filled the office of Secretary of the State from May 8, 1843 until his death.
