Mentioned in WHS travel letter 1833-06-24 WHS writes "The Shipgate or Bridge Gate is celebrated as being the place where King Edgar Landed from his barge when he rowed across the river by eight captive Kings." Kind Edgar took the throne in 959 when his brother died, and ruled until his death in 975.
