Biography
He was the famed American innovator who did not invent the steamboat, but constructed the first steamboat that successfully traveled a commercial route. He also designed a warship and submarine. WHS mentions Fulton in a 1833 letter when he visited James Watt's statue in Glasgow, recognizing Fulton and Watt's "labors in ameliorating and improving the condition of the human race."
