Biography

A character from a tale Henry narrates to Frances in an 1833 European travel letter. Garlinde is the beautiful daughter of Sibo de Lorch, a man who refused hospitality to a stranger, who in some variations is a troll. Garlinde is kidnapped as punishment for her father's inhospitality and lives for years (the trolls treat her kindly) on top of a mountain within eyesight of her father. Eventually she is rescued by and married to a knight named Ruthelm with her father's blessing.
