Biography

A character from a tale Henry narrates to Frances in an 1833 European travel letter. Beatrice was the Countess of Cleves who was left alone when her mother died and her father had to go fight in the war. Eventually, Gerhard, a young knight comes and woos her with her father's blessing. Beatrice and Gerhard marry and have three sons. Unfortunately, Gerhard has to leave Beatrice alone once more in order to join her father and she dies waiting for him.
