Ysidora was born in San Diego and lived in San Diego and Los Angeles. She was raised by her widowed mother, and escaped death from an Native American attack thanks to her mother's knowledge of one of the Native American languages. She married Don Juan Forster in 1837, with whom she had six children, three of whom lived to adulthood. After the death of her son and husband she moved to Los Angles until her own death in 1883.
