Thomas Wiltberger Evans

Biography
Dr. Thomas Wiltberger Evans was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He established himself as a dentist first in Maryland, and then in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was well-known for filling cavities rather than extracting teeth. In 1848 he travelled to Paris where he served under the patronage of Napoleon III and he treated many of the European monarchs. He possibly sheltered the Empress Eugenie when the French Empire fell in 1870. Dr. Evans was also the proprietor of the American Register a weekly journal that was published in Paris, and he published many books including his memoirs.
He is mentioned in 18710902WHS_FWS, where WHS writes: "Dr. Evans insists that we shall visit the ex Emperor." In his memoirs Evans writes of traveling with Seward in 1871.
