Biography

King Solomon was the third and last king in the ancient United Kingdom of Israel. He consolidated David's kingdom and set up a luxurious court and maintained a permanent army. He also expanded international trade and built many buildings including Solomon's temple. He secured peace with Egypt by marrying the Pharaoh's daughter. But, he also imposed heavy taxes on Israel while exempting his homeland Judah. This was one of the major causes of Israel splitting off from Judah to form a separate kingdom after Solomon's death.
