William Jenkins Worth

Biography
William J. Worth served in the War of 1812. After he distinguished himself at the Battle of Niagara he was given the rank of major. After the war he became superintendent of the U.S. military academy. He was second in command to General Zachary Taylor at the opening of the war with Mexico. He led all the battles on the Gulf Coast, from Vera Cruz to Mexico. After the war he was in command of the Department of Texas, and there he died of cholera.
