Biography
George Wilkins Kendall was a newspaper correspondent, writer, and rancher. He learned the newspaper trade from Horace Greeley. He co-founded the New Orleans Picayne, in 1837. He later joined an expedition claiming to be searching for new trade routes to the west in New Mexico, but his party was captured and held in a prison in Mexico City for two years. During the Mexican-American War, Kendall sent news from Mexico back to the US. In the 1850s he travelled Europe and married Adeline Valcourt, who he met in Paris, France. They settled in Texas and had four children.
