Biography

Col. Edmund Kirby served in the War of 1812 and the Mexican War and was an army paymaster. He died in Avon, New York in 1849 from a disease he contracted during the Mexican War. He married Eliza A. Brown, daughter of Major General Jacob Jennings Brown Sr., a Commanding General of the US from 1821-1828, a commander in the War of 1812, and the recipient of a Congressional gold medal. Edmund and Eliza had nine children together, including Edmund Kirby, Jr., a Union war hero from the Civil War, who tragically died at the age of 23.
