Samuel Griswold Goodrich was born on August 19, 1973 in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He was an author of many children's books which he wrote under the pseudonym of Peter Parley. Goodrich died on May 9, 1860 in New York City with the cause of death being noted as heart disease. He is buried in White Oak Cemetery in Southbury, Connecticut.
