Biography

Cornelius Van Arsdale was a farmer in Cayuga Co. NY. In 1846 he was hired as a hand by John Van Nest. On March 12, 1846, William Freeman attacked and killed four members of the Van Nest family. Van Arsdale was instrumental in protecting the other members of the Van Nest family and driving off the attacker. He was severely wounded but survived the attack.
