Biography

William Ballard Preston studied law at the University of Virginia. He was admitted to the bar in 1826. He served as a member of the Virginia state Senate, and was elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress. From 1849 to 1850 he served as the Secretary of the Navy in the Cabinet of President Zachary Taylor. He died in Virginia.
