Biography

Frederick Canfield was the son of David Sealy and Mary Dickerson Canfield. He is also the brother of Mahlon Dickerson Canfield (MDC). He moved to Ferromonte, NJ as a child, and there he had the charge of the Dickerson mine for thirty-nine years. He had a fondness for natural history and collected insects, birds, and minerals. He married Julia A. Halsey on May 31, 1838, and they had five children together. He died at his home in Ferromonte, and was buried at Succasunna, NJ.
