Biography

She was a daughter of William and Jane Inglis, making her one of the sisters of Frances Inglis Calderon who married Angel Calderon, the Spanish diplomat. Richmond and Frances ran a school together in Boston and Staten Island, NY, with their two other sisters, Harriet and Lydia. Richmond married Alexander MacLeod and apparently left him in Scotland to emigrate to the US with her children (allegedly because of their unhappy marriage) and live with her sisters. The Inglis school in NY was rocked by several scandals, one being that one of their young pupils (Mary Elizabeth Croghan) ran off to elope an older man (Edward Scheneley) which forced them to close their doors.
