Biography
Eugene Casserly was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States in 1822, settling in New York. He graduated from Georgetown College, and was admitted to the bar in 1844. He became editor of the Freeman's Journal. In 1850 he moved to San Francisco, California, was elected the State printer in 1851, and was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate. He served in the Senate from 1869-1873. He served on multiple committees in his later years, including the Committee on Pacific Railroads, and the Committee on Engrossed Bills. He died in San Francisco.
