Biography

Henry William Charles Abbott was a British physician and collector of Egyptian art and artifacts. Abbott lived in Egypt for 20 years, amassing an enormous collection of Egyptian antiquities. In 1853, Abbott came to the United States to tour with his collection. One year after his death in 1859, the collection was purchased by the New York Historical Society. In 1937, it was sold to the Brooklyn Museum, where it now resides.
