Biography

Sir Henry St John-Mildmay, 5th Baronet, was an English landowner and British Army officer. He succeeded his father, of the same name, as baronet after his death in 1848. In 1851 he married Helena Shaw Lefevre and they had seven children, two of whom (both daughters) died in adolescence. He was a major in the 2nd Dragoon Guards, an Honorary Colonel of the North Hampshire Yeomanry, High Sheriff of Hampshire in 1862, and Deputy Lieutenant of the county. He is mentioned by Frances in a letter to Lazette on February 12, 1852, as visiting the United States. He attends dinner parties and other social events with the Sewards while they are in Washington, DC.
