John Fiennes Crampton

Biography
Sir John Fiennes Crampton was born in the United Kingdom. He served as the Secretary of Legation at Berne in December 1844 and in 1845 was transferred to Washington in the same position. He then served as charge d'affaires from 1851-1852 and then as Minister to the United States from 1852 to 1856. In May 1856 President Franklin Pierce broke off diplomatic relations with Crampton. He married Victoire Balfe in 1860, and they were divorced in 1863. Crampton died in 1886.
