Biography
Nicholas Wiseman was born in 1802 in Seville, Spain. In 1810, he and his brother began attending St.Cuthbert's College in England. In 1818, he left St. Cuthbert's and went to Rome. In 1824 he was ordained subdeacon and in 1825, priest. In 1827, he became vice-rector of the English College in Rome, and in 1828, he became rector. In the 1830s and 1840s he travelled between England and Rome, filling various appointments. In 1850, he became a cardinal and then the first archbishop in England since the reformation. He died 15 years later, in 1865, in England. He was also well-known for his writings. He published "Essays on Various Subjects" in 1853, and "Sermons on our Lord Jesus Christ" in 1864.
