Clarence Corning was the nephew of Erastus Corning (node 1497) and a Civil War soldier.
He worked at WSJ's store from about 1850-1858.
Service Record: Enlisted in the Regular Army 17th Infantry Regiment on 14 May 1861. Promoted to Full Captain on 11 Dec 1862.Promoted to Full Lt Colonel on 04 Sep 1863. Mustered out on 04 Sep 1863. Commissioned an officer in Company S, New York 14th Heavy Artillery Regiment on 04 Sep 1863. Mustered out on 08 Mar 1865 at Albany, NY.
