Biography
Felix Octavius Carr (F.O.C.) Darley was born in Philadelphia, and began his career in New York City before moving to Claymont, Delaware. He worked as a newspaper, magazine, and book illustrator. He illustrated books for Charles Dickens, James Fenimore Cooper, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Alfred Tennyson. He was one of the first artists to specialize in the field of book illustration. In 1859, he married Jenny Colburn.
