Biography
Stanbery was offered the post of attorney general in 1866 and was offered an appointment by Andrew Johnson for Supreme Court Justice--but this appointment was rejected by the Senate due to the Reconstruction policies as retribution. Stanbery's appointment as Attorney General was revoked after Johnson's impeachment case and removed himself to Cincinnati.
